2008 - 2009 Competition Winners

I'm very pleased to announce the winners of the fourth annual Yellow Pages Advertising Challenge. This year the competition was extraordinary in two respects. First, we had the largest number of entries: approximately 1,000 entries were received from nearly 150 schools. Second, the quality of the entries this year was consistently outstanding. The pictures below show just some of the entries.

On behalf of everyone at the Yellow Pages Association, I'd like to thank the nearly 1,700 participating students for all of their hard work. I'd also like to extend our gratitude to all the instructors who provided invaluable guidance and support to these talented students.

Beyond my thanks to students and their instructors, a special word of great appreciation is due U-Store-It, which served as the client for this year's competition. U-Store-It's participation provided "real-world" elements to both the competition assignment and judging. The competition was richer because of its participation. In particular, I'd like the thank the following individuals:

Kristi Gubbels

Director of Marketing, U- Store-It

Linda Cowan

Vice President/Director of Client Service, DAC Group

Judging took place on May 8, 2009, and it would be an understatement to say that the judges had a very difficult time selecting the winners. The advertising industry will be richer indeed as these students begin their professional careers. In the end, the judges selected the entries that represented the ideal goal of Yellow Pages advertising:

visually creative work that has great potential to break through directory clutter without sacrificing the communication of information likely to be important to the consumer when s/he is about to make a purchase decision.

The winning entries are listed below. You can view the winning ads by using the links on the top, left-hand side of this page.

Regards,

Neg Norton
President, YPA
